Achievements
Criminal
Successfully overturned a conviction on appeal to the Court of Final Appeal that involved two key government officials charged with of housing benefits fraud. The Court of Final Appeal accepted the argument that the trial court erred in finding the defendants guilty even when there was insufficient evidence to draw an adverse inference against the defendants (See: HKSAR v Mak Chai-Kwong and Another [2016] 19 HKCFAR 1)
Civil
Achieved a landmark success for the Plaintiff in a hard-fought probate battle involving challenges to a will based on due execution, testamentary capacity and knowledge & approval grounds. Having lost at first instance, the Plaintiff succeeded on appeal to the Court of Appeal whose judgment is of considerable importance to probate practitioners. The Defendant subsequently applied for leave to appeal to the Court of Final Appeal but failed (See: Choy Po Chun & Anor v Au Wing Lun CACV 177/2017)
